We love to hear about our pups from the people who know them best....Some of these comments came unsolicited and have been treasured for years. Then, when we started working on this website we asked owners to write a line or two telling about life with their Havanese...keeping in mind what someone considering this breed might want to know.
Hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
"Barney is still such a treasure. Everyone loves him. He is so sweet, doesn't bark, never destroyed anything (no chewing furniture or shoes) no mistakes/mishaps in the house (from delivery-potty trained). He is the perfect family member and almost human in so may ways." Montgomery, PA
"Zeus and Athena are truly members of our family...We can't watch TV without them on the back of the couch. They shout for joy everytime we come into the house after we've been out...doesn't matter if its 5 minutes or two hours. Zeus bonded well with everyone but seems very tight with my eldest son Ethan. Ethan had his wisdom teeth out 2 years ago. Zeus never left his side while he iced his jaw and recovered on the couch for 3 days."
"When I read the description of the Havanese breed on the AKC website,I thought "this dog sounds too good to be true". Well, she is too good to be true & then some. The main reason we picked the Havanese is because my son has allergies. He has never had any trouble with Maggie...in fact, even though she always slept in her crate for about the first three years, now most nights you can find her cuddled up beside Grant in his bed."
South Park, PA
"Lexi is just over a year old. She is the best pup we ever had. Very smart and healthy. Lexi gets along with all animals and loves everyone in the house equally (our maltese was more of a one woman dog). She has been around a ton of other animals from ferrets to cats, goats and chickens. Lexi was easily potty trained and can sit, stay, roll over, high five, lay down, speak. Her favorite game is hide and seek. Our two daughters aged 7 and 8 hide and we say "where are the girls?" Lexi runs all over the house to find them. When she does, she sits and speaks until they come out! She find them in closets, tubs, laundry room and even under their beds. Nothing bothers her and she goes everywhere with us. She loves the boat. We camp on it and she thinks she is the queen."
Sanford, FL
"Tia is doing great. We are crazy about her and she seems to feel the same way about us. last week end we went to Charleston to visit my Dad on Father's Day and we walked around the Farmers Market downtown. I should say we attempted to walk around but as my husband said, it was like trying to walk around with a rock star. We were constantly stopped as people young and old cooed over Tia saying that she was the cutest puppy that they'd ever seen. Thanks for doing a great job as a breeder."
Jacksonville, FL
"Bachi seems to be the perfect dog...the perfect companion! Everyone who knows her thinks this is true and loves her. She is so lively and active and alert...and so intuitive. She anticipates what will happen and behaves appropiately. She loves people but will settle down when told to do so. She is quick to learn and very obedient without losing her great personality. She enjoys structure and easily falls into her daily routine. She never begs to go with me..although there is nothing she likes better...but when i tell her "ByeBye" she knows I am saying good bye to her and that she isn't going on this trip. So she goes to her bed to lie down and take a nap. I love her reassuring little nose taps on my leg as she walks by, letting me know she is there and reminding me not to forget her. She always has her eye on me, even from her bed and is a wonderful watch dog all night long. She is fiercely protective but as soon as I tell her it's ok, she wags her tail and goes up to the stranger to be petted. I have had many types of dogs in my life and cannot imagine life without my Havanese. Undoubtably the best disposition, smartest, most fun and most loving dog I have ever had"
Naples, FL
"Long time no talk. I have been wanting to e-mail you some pics of the boys, but time seems to be limited these days. 15 months ago my husband and I welcomed our first child, Madelyne, and the rest is history. Barley and Hopps have been the perfect big brothers with impeccable manners. They have been affectionate and friendly with her since infancy and romp tirelessly now that she can grab and chase. They are truly the most wonderful creatures. I periodically check your website and saw that you are expecting a new litter in November. Good luck finding homes for the new fur babies. My husband stays home with Madelyne and the boys so money is always tight, but we have never questioned the money we spent on our Barley and Hopps. They were worth every penny. Anyway, I just wanted you to know that all is well here in Pennsylvania and your pups are doing very well."

"Princess "Lilly" - Born November 30, 2006

Our whole family loves Lilly!!!!"

"This is a pic of Mulligan in June. He was 7 months old at the time of the pic. He is absolutely awesome. However, his "big sister", our 10 year old golden retriever, may think differently. He just is on her, at her, nipping, pulling, tugging, playing, jumping, 24 -7. He absolutely drives her nuts. And, thank God, she is wonderful with him. She goes back at him and they have some unbelievable wrestling matches. Mullligan is truly the first dog I have ever had that just makes me laugh. I took him to puppy training at the age of four months. He actually did very well.We have sit and down and have been working on stay.He speaks and kisses on command - too cute. We are now working on tricks to keep everyone amazed. He truly is very smart.Mike absoloutely adores him - he will watch tv and Mulligan will sit behind him on top of the recliner and literally "hang out". Just too cute!! We have also chosen to keep the puppy cut and he is adored by the groomers - I think it helps that I brush him daily.
So, all in all we are so happy with our little guy and Poco just loves him so. He definitely hit pay dirt getting us as a mom and dad - it is very difficult not to spoil him to death!!!
Cape Coral, FL
"I just wanted to you again how much I love my beautiful boy Bandit & what a great pleasure it was working with you. I will keep in touch,
Tampa, FL
"This is Oliver, also known as "Oliver the Wonder Dog". His tricks include high fives, dancing, hopping on his hind legs, bowing and singing. He's the center of the whole house. We love him to death! I'm so spoiled now I don't think I could ever again have a 'regular' dog. He's so funny and smart. He has a certain routine/relationship with each of us. He's got a certain game he plays with my son, another one with only my husband. He talks, he dances, he sings. He gestures with his eyes and his head when he wants something, he gives a short "woof" and then motions his head toward the thing he wants" Winter Park, FL
"Jazz has played a huge role in our lives since my husband had 3 surgeries in one week. Dave was in the hospital for a total of almost 7 weeks and rehab for over 2 months. Jazz has become his best friend, visiting him at rehab, and slowly walking by his side when he could only walk a short distance. Jazz became the light of the rehab and continues to be by Dave's side. We were starting to show her but that has come to a stop till we can get back to normal. Her personality is one of a kind, she is a JAZZ. She loves everyone and I do mean everyone. All humans including kids are her friends with a kiss for all. Jazz gives all fuzzy animals a kiss also which includes our 11 year old cat Sparky. She gets hit in the head (not hard) every time she does but that doesn't seem to bother her. She is so loved by all and I really don't know what we would do without her. Jazz keeps my husband smiling day and night. I hope you like these pictures which were taken between 10 to 12 months. Oh, she is the best of travelers ready to go at a seconds notice. She is truly the light in our lives, and Sasha our 12 year old Havanese are best of friends. Sasha has a new lease on life since Jazz entered our lives. Jazz's health is excellent as we just got her 1 year checkup.I will say she is quite a tomboy, not sissy one bit." Trinity, FL
"This is Reggie, my 8 1/2 month old male. I thought everyone should see this wonderful face. This is what I see every time I look at him, just this incredible adoring face. My first Havanese, he is such a joy. When I am home he follows me around, staying right where I am, but plays well by himself with his toys. He's quick to respond at the slightest indication from me, and loves attention, which, I must admit, he gets a lot of. He does well with my 9 year old Persian, just a bit more exuberant than she would prefer, but will often lay down beside her and take a nap. We are in Advanced Puppy Obedience Training class in which he's doing very well. He's very smart and quick to learn. He's a bit shy around people and other animals, but we are working on socialization, and the classes give him exposure to others he doesn't normally have. I encourage anyone interested to seriously consider one of these incredible creatures. I am so glad I did. you will not be disappointed in dealing with Debbie. She is incredibly helpful."

"Gracie is definately a companion puppy. She will be 4 very soon. She loves to be wherever you are. Gracie is a precious joy to this entire family. Everyone who looks at her loves her because she is beautiful".
Winter Springs, FL
"Lola is the apple of my eye. She is loving, cuddly, fiesty, bright and loyal. Not a day passes that she doesn't make me laugh."
Kendall, FL
"Cachou and I have moved to Switzerland where I started a new job. I already bought a coat for her for the colder days but so far, she seems to like her new home. Cachou graduated from Petsmart puppy training class before we left. It was very useful for both of us".
Zurich, Switzerland
"Our little Ranger is as sweet as they come, a real lover. He is best friends with Buddy, the Lab/Golden Retriever mix and respectfully affectionate with our grand dame Kayla. Friendly with everyone...Very much my constant companion, he rolls on his back with four paws in the air for a tummy rub or just to hang out. We adore him. He's taken to napping on the glass coffee table and under my desk."
Potomac, MD
"Coco is a very smart princess and has already learned to ring the bells to go outside. And (knock wood) has not had an accident in the house except for once on her first day here. She sits very nicely when you as her to (and you have a treat). At the moment, she is digging to china in her bed trying to bury a bone. She is so much fun and we all just love her to bits. I never thought I would have loved her so much, but she is just so sweet and lovable. I tell people my dog is made of love and fur! Thanks again for our "cocopuff" (as we tend to call her). We couldn't be happier.

"Azucar continues to grow and fill our lives with temendous joy. She is still in the terrible twos, but we enjoy her mischievousness." Kendall, FL
"Rico is about 9" tall and weighs about 12 lbs. Rico is friendly and a little shy around new people. ALWAYS barks at people if he is riding in the car. ALWAYS, ALWAYS barks at the doorbell even if it 's on TV. He sometimes is a little whiney (my husband says it's because I baby him), and he is definitely a Momma's boy. He comes to work with me everyday and for a couple of hours during the day, he has to sleep in my chair while I work. He is great with our boys, who chase him, play tug of war and hide n' seek. They are both desperate for him to sleep with them at night, but that only happens if I'm not at home ( and even then he prefers to sleep on my pillow)."
Tampa, FL
We ABSOLUTELY could not love Mr Teddy any more than we do! He is the cutest thing in town (literally). We changed his name because he looks like a little Teddy Bear. Everywhere I take him I am stopped and asked about what kind of dog he is. He comes to work with me each day and has wormed his way into the entire staff's hearts. Even our neighbors in the office park stop in to say each day to him...not us! We have 30 -40 people in the door each day. He NEVER barks at any guests, but simply runs out to greet them. He believes that every client comes in just to pet and see him. Obviously they all love him and many have come back to "show him off to other family members or friends. He loves all other pets and is very curious. My cat (with us 7 years) barely tolerates Teddy however, Teddy just keeps trying to be his friend. He sleeps in a crate next to my bed. I have had dogs all my life, and they were just that...dogs. I cannot imagine life without him...I used to make fun of people who treated their dogs like people but I cannot explain my connection with this puppy." Chicago, IL
"I just wanted to let you know that Lulu is doing great! She's a sweet, affectionate dog and she seems to have settled right in to her new home. My daughter Olivia was so happy and surprised! She cried for about 20 minutes when she saw Lulu and has really taken to caring for her. The picture I am sending is of Olivia (in glasses) and her friend with the puppy." Tampa, FL
Just look at my beautiful girl! She's grown so much. Pixie is unbelievably smart and the best dog of my life-none other I've ever had can compare. Everyone is enamored of her when they see her. She is so friendly and happy loves everyone. She is truly special and one in a million. ///
Here are our kids. Tomi is getting the sit - stay pretty good.
He is doing fine. A little pistol.
They are both wonderful dogs. Linus is the cutest, friendliest, most rotten little mutt I’ve ever seen. Lucy acts like the perfect older sister, always looking out for him.
" We couldn't be more pleased with Sophie - housebroken and crate trained well... She's very loving and sweet (and loves the kids!)" ....
Tia is my constant companion, my shadow. I couldn't begin to tell you how much she means to me. My husband frequently tells me that I couldn't have picked a better dog and that she was worth every penny, but to me, she is absolutely priceless.
It was great meeting you yesterday and all of the darling pups. As for my sweetie, I named her Anna...Cabana Anna! She is doing great! No accidents in the house, slept through the whole night and is eating well. The kids adore her and so do my husband and I!! Thank you so much for raising such a great pup! Florida
Our havanese Pixie is absolutely a priceless member of our family. She has the most incredible disposition-kind, gentle, loving, and she lives to please us. Her intelligence amazes me. She learns commands extremely fast. She was a breeze to potty train. She's also a girl who loves to have fun fetching, playing tug-o-war and just being silly running a hundred miles an hour around the house. She is a great traveler and loves the car. The icing on the cake is how beautiful she is. Her groomer tells me that her coat is awesome. I honestly never imagined how wonderful this dog would be- she just makes us soo happy. Tampa, FL
